I agree that there are plenty of dangerous places around us.

As a parent it is YOUR responsibility to teach your child how to avoid these risks. It is much better if they learn it in their first year or two.

All you need is to spend more time with your child. For many children it does not take that long to learn how to swim on their own. Just do not use floating devices (eg, life jacket) when child suppose to learn how to swim. Otherwise he will be confused and will assume that there is always something that does swimming for you.

Children are NATURAL swimmers.

Bush and the Republicans were not protecting us on 9-11, and we aren't a lot safer now. We may be more afraid due to george bush, but are we safer? Being fearful does not necessarily make one safer. Fear can cause people to hide and cower. What do you think? How does that work in a democracy again? How does being more threatening make us more likeable?Isn't the country with
the most weapons the biggest threat to the rest of the world? When one country is the biggest threat to the rest of the world, isn't that likely to be the most hated country?
If ever there was ever a time in our nation's history that called for a change, this is it!
The more people that the government puts in jails, the safer we are told to think we are. The real terrorists are wherever they are, but they aren't living in a country with bars on the windows. We are.

The simple fact is that anything can be dangerous for a child without adult supervision. It really doesn’t matter if it is a gun, an electrical outlet, a pool or a pencil. If people take responsibility for their children and respect the things we use everyday, most household accidents are preventable.

But the real question is, can you hold up a bank with a pool ??

I think not…

That is crime statistics and a separate argument. I just like this statistic to show how bogus the "guns are an accident waiting to happen" argument is. See Switzerland and New Zealand which have low crime yet firearms are very prolific. Also check out Jamaica which leads the world with murders yet has extremely tough sentences for owning a single bullet (with no gun).
